For all the excitement the final day of the Semifinals featured, the Final Round, well, lacked. The five that had the privilege to pick the final weekend of the season managed to finish in the same order they entered the weekend in. None of the five finished the weekend with more points than they started the weekend with. Mike Brekke was the closest to breaking even at negative two points, with Charles Yelverton right behind on negative three and the other three participants all at negative seven points over the final three days. Regardless of how uneventful the final three days were, the end result was representative of the season as a whole. Brekke's 132 points in the regular season topped everyone by a sizeable margin and his 58 points for the four playoff rounds combined was equally impressive. His combined regular season and playoffs winning percentage was a solid 71.5%. If any MLB team played to that mark for 162 games, they would wind up with a record of 116-46. That would match the 2001 Mariners and 1906 Cubs (152 games) for the most in MLB history. Factoring out his three regular season missed games, his winning percentage would have been 72.7%. Brekke's postseason earned him the clean sweep of awards for the season and the twin $10 ASFL2 Money Leagues credits. He also earned ten bonus points to cap things off. Charles Yelverton & Brad Wilson earned eight for finishing second and third with Jay Soester & Dave Berrong receiving seven for reaching the last round. For the full breakdown of bonus points given out based on playoff results, check the Bonus Points Standings page. The Bonus Points Standings page is now updated to reflect all bonus points earned for the 2010 edition of MLB Day-to-Day Pickem. Congrats again to those who saw success in the postseason. I hope to have one more piece to finish the season within the next few days, perhaps week. |
