Just like April of last season, the winner for the month was decided on the last day.
With two days left, Tom Vobejda had a commanding lead at 26-16, but hope wasn't quite lost as Tim Quinley was on a three game streak. After Quinley extended his streak with a correct Cardinals DMU pick and Vobejda ended his with the opposite incorrect Braves DMU pick, Quinley found himself two points back with one day left.
On the final day, Quinley elected to go with the Rockies while Vobejda went with the Phillies. Once Vobejda elected to not select a DMU, Quinley was guaranteed to win the month if the Rockies won. The Pirates went up 1-0 in the first inning, but the Rockies answered with four in the bottom of the second and then shut the door the rest of the way to give both members 23 points for the month. That meant Quinley earned the month win by having the better record at 23-8 to Vobejda's 21-10. Quinley is now the first member to qualify for the 2011 MLB Day-to-Day Pickem Playoffs, the first of 25 to do so.
Quinley also earned an extra 0.33 bonus points for having the best winning percentage this month despite missing a day. Tom Vobejda earned some consolation with the same amount of extra bonus points by having the longest streak at eight. Darrell Whitford matched his stread, but Vobejda gets the bonus points due to having the better finish for the month. Tim Schneider finished fourth for the month, one spot ahead of Don Greenslate. Both were the only members to go 3-0 on DMUs for the month with Schneider's month rank earning him the extra bonnus points.
The Bonus Points standings are now updated to reflect those earned for the April results. Unlike last season, each month's results won't be updated in the 2011-2012 Bonus Points standings. This is due to the potential for all points to be automatically turned into championship points if the NFL or NBA season is lost to a lockout. Hopefully both league's have their labor situations sorted out by the end of the MLB regular season. |
