2011 Recap
3:03 PM on October 22nd by Jay Soester

Unfortunately, the busy fall schedule once again delayed this article to mid October, but better late than never.

I'd like to thank everyone that participated in this season's edition of MLB Day-to-Day Pickem. I hope everyone agrees that almost all kinks are now worked out of the game and that it continues to improve. No one was more glad than me to see the MLB season end with all the work that went into keeping things updated and functioning properly. I'd like to thank Brad Wilson for helping me a bit during the season with updates, I've given him five bonus points for his help.

Despite my forced delay, the game ended with a bang over the final two playoff rounds (the other two playoff rounds weren't bad either). All ten members were alive heading into the final day of the semifinal round with the final advancement spot determined past midnight ET thanks to a 14-inning Red Sox win in game two of a doubleheader. From that point, the five Final Round qualifiers were separated by just two points. Heading into the final day, three participants had a shot at the title with Dave Berrong overtaking Andrew Maher with the final pick of the season thanks to the Tigers' 5-4 win and the Royals' 1-0, DMU loss.

Berrong's playoff championship earned him a $10 ASFL2 Money Leagues credit to match Tom Vobejda's for winning the regular season championship. He also earned ten bonus points for winning the playoffs. The final bonus points standings for the MLB Day-to-Day Pickem season are now official with the 2011-2012 Bonus Points Standings updated to reflect points earned from the game by all who participated as well as response points from Fantasy Football & Fantasy Hockey.

MLB Day-to-Day Pickem Stats Round-Up
This season saw 7,752 picks between 71 members in the regular season, 588 picks more than last year's edition of the game. The collective record came out to 4,699-3,053 for a rate of 60.62% correct, 0.6% better than the rate last season. The total number of DMU picks was 1,745 between 69 members. Of those picks, 981 were correct (to 764 incorrect) for a rate of 56.22% correct, slightly worse than last season (0.12%), but still a better ratio than I'd hope to make it. Fifteen members had double digit streaks this season, down four from last year's total of 19. Brad Duff set the new record in the final month of the regular season at 23 straight correct picks, eight picks better than Tom Vobejda's streak of 15, the second longest this season. The average long streak for the regular season was 7.01, among the 70 members who had a correct pick this season.

There were 152 days to the regular season with Jay Soester (9th), Phil Grabar (11th), Tim Schneider (19th), Greg Krause (20th), and David Cords (28th) being the only members to make a pick for every day of the regular season. Tom Vobejda, Dave Berrong, Anders Nilsson, and Andrew Maher either made a pick or passed for each day of the season and join the five to make a pick every day in receiving half a bonus point for their dedication.
Patrick Cooley (43-44) led the way with 87 DMU picks this season, eight more than Tim Quinley's record from last season, and 69.6% of his 128 picks this year. John Wright had the most correct DMU picks, with 45, but the second most DMU picks total at 77. Steve Steffy & Michael Byrd Sr. tied for the third most DMU picks at 61.

The playoffs saw 470 picks between 24 members over four rounds with a record of 297-173. Of those 470 picks, 68 were DMU's at a record of 40-28. Dave Berrong, Andrew Maher & Kevin Whorton tied for the cumulative best record in the playoffs at 20-8. Mike Brekke & Tom Vobejda earned the most bonus points for the postseason with 15 each.
