Heading into Tuesday, four members remained perfect for the season at 5-0. Despite all having the same record, Matthew Hardman had the lead in the standings at 12 points thanks to a properly timed DMU pick of the Braves on Monday. Andrew Reynolds and Mark Yothers were tied for second behind him at 11 points with Mike Miles another two points back at nine. Three different teams represented each undefeated member remaining. Mike Miles and Mark Yothers decided on the Yankees, Matthew Hardman had the White Sox and Andrew Reynolds had the Rangers. The Yankees were the first to start and the first to finish. Things were looking good until a four run collapse in the top of the eighth ended in a 5-4, ten inning loss at home to the Twins to eliminate two members from the race. The second game to finish, approximately 20 minutes later, saw the Rangers hang on to beat the Mariners 3-2 with both Mariner runs coming in the top of the seventh inning to make the ending a bit interesting. The final score made sure that Reynolds was safe for another day. The final game of the night was also decided in extra innings thanks to a two-run eighth innning from the Royals which tied the game at six after it began with the Royals down 4-0 through half an inning. After two and a half frames of zeroes, the Royals used a simple combination of leadoff single, sacrifice bunt and RBI single to knock Matthew Hardman out of the running for last undefeated. Congrats to Andrew Reynolds for the honor of last man standing with the assist to Melky Cabrera. Unfortunately for him, this game isn't in survivor format. |
