Before I get into the news, please make sure this address (bsoester@bellsouth.net) and my email address on the website (commish@theasfl.com) won't be filtered to your junk or bulk email filters. About 90% of my emails will come from commish@theasfl.com as I can't send from this address while I'm at school. I hope to have all mass-email newsletters on the site in an easier-to-read html format (though I don’t plan to send mass-emails that often), if you receive one and would prefer to read it as such, go to the website within the next day or so. They will also be posted on the message board in the League Office section for you to comment on. |
The first ASFL2 Season (2008-2009) will begin next Thursday, January 3rd with Fantasy Golf's first tournament- be sure to get your lineups set. The first points in the standings will likely be put up Sunday night with the week winner. Because there are going to be more than 50 members, I have created a second yahoo fantasy golf group and will have an overall standings page for golf on the website- the end of season placement scoring will be based on the overall standings as if the groups were seeded evenly. The standings pages on the site will be updated with the names of confirmed members in the next few weeks, don't be alarmed if you're not on the pages right away, as long as you have an asterisk next to your name on the members page you're fine. During the season I will try to keep the standings updated as soon as points are earned, but I likely will have some tough spells. I'm going to try to keep a log of where points were earned on the message board or on the site in a monthly log thread or page that will simply look something like this: [1/7/08] EriC Franckowiak 1 Point- Fantasy Golf Week Win [1/7/08] Mike Kroner 1 Point- Picking Tiger Woods to win Mercedes-Benz Championship [1/7/08] Andrew Reynolds 1 Point- Picking Tiger Woods to win Mercedes-Benz Championship [1/14/08] Tim Schneider 1 Point- Fantasy Golf Week Win [1/21/08] Nicholas Alicea 1 Point- Fantasy Golf Week Win [1/28/08] Kevin Joseph 1 Point- Fantasy Golf Week Win [1/28/08] Kevin Joseph 1 Point- Picking Phil Mickleson to win tournament This will be done primarily for two reasons: (1) so you can see what I've updated and what I haven't and (2) to make sure I haven't lost count somewhere. The next competition of the season is Fantasy NASCAR, which should open sometime in January. In the mean time, two unofficial, trial runs of games will take place: NFL Playoffs Pickem, will have a trial run on the message board at this link. Fantasy NFL Playoffs, will also be tested. It is currently not slated to be in the rotation of competitions next year, but if things go well and the games well received I may add it. Here's the link to it. |
-Recruiting has gone pretty well thus far, I hope to have nearly 100 members close to when baseball is about to start, the one area slipping behind is the Mid-Atlantic. If you know anyone in Delaware, Maryland, DC, Virginia, West Virginia or Southern New Jersey, feel free to see if they're interested. -There are currently 53 members, of those there are 37 confirmed and 42 in the yahoo fantasy golf groups. If you're not in one of the groups, please join. The ID is 6662 and the password is 123456. In order to be confirmed as a member you must, -have filled out a signup form -have joined one of the two yahoo groups -have registered for the message board -have replied to the New Member Introduction Thread in the League Office section of the message board If you think you've done everything and you haven't been marked as confirmed, please email me. --Two previous requirements are now being relaxed: -You're not required to use the same team name for every sport, though you’re asked to use the team name you signed up with as often as possible. You may have bonus points taken away if you don't. -AIM will not be required at any point in time, though it is strongly encouraged as it will be used for tiebreakers and its the easiest means of getting a hold of me and for me to give our information individually. You can download it at www.aim.com, if you do download it, inform me of your chosen screen name. -As previously referred to, the league will officially be using bonus points as part of the official final standings. They will be kept track of in the League Office section to a degree, meaning there could be long periods without updates and there could be big jumps at various points in time. There will be a maximum amount on the number of BPs that will count toward the final standings, likely to be 15% (though the number may change) of the top point total not factoring them in. If someone has earned more than that number of points, they won't be added to their championship total, but the bonus point totals will be used as a means of tiebreaking in the final standings. Ways to earn Bonus Points: -Adding Yourself to the Frappr Map -Being Active (posting primarily) on the league message board; not on the boards within the yahoo leagues) and bringing activity from others; dynasties included. -Answering trivia questions on the message board, in the bottom section. -Coming up with a website poll question that is used. (there is now a thread on the League Office section of the message board to suggest them) -Doing Assignments that help the commish, posted in the second to last section on the board. points can be lost for not following directions and for breaking rules, cheating, etc. -Prizes may be given out at the end of the season. Actual trophies may be given out if enough money can be generated from the website, but its more likely to be a joke prize of some kind (the front runner at this point is a spray painted fruitsnacks box with a written inscription commemorating your achievement) if anything. |
