ASFL2 Newsletter #14 (7/13/10)

The second ASFL2 season is in the books after 526 days of competition (January 8th, 2009 to June 17th, 2010).

2009-2010 Season Year-End Topics

You can view the official 2009-2010 season results on the 2009-2010 Overall Standings Page. Congratulations to Anders Nilsson for winning the second championship in league history with a record 678 points. Congrats also to Mike Miles for finishing second for the second year in a row and to Jay Soester for finishing on the podium for the second year in a row. The conference champions are also to be commended: Tim Schneider (Great Lakes), Robert Casares (Midwest), Kevin Whorton (Northeast), Jay Soester (Southeast), Mike Miles (West), & Anders Nilsson (International). Trophies for first through third overall should be sorted out by the end of the month.

The league has also debuted three new competition standings with the end of the 2009-2010 season:

Congratulations to Robert Casares for earning the most points of any rookie (had to of signed up 11/1/08 or later) last season. He also came away as the top new member (cut off of 1/1/09) last season.
Congrats also go out to Matt Burton for winning the Partial Season Championship for 2009-2010 (cut off of 5/1/09).

The three new standings types will continue to be used going forward. Anyone new for the 2010-2011 season can look forward to a new competition to compete in. A new, smaller version of the main competition to overlap (underlap?) with the original competition is also being looked into. In the mean time, you can use the History Section to view further breakdowns of the 2009-2010 standings, including the standings for draft games only and the standings by sport.

Before I move on to the future, I'll take one last peek at the past. Through two and a half calendar years of competition, Mike Miles leads the all-time standings with 1,230 points. Jay Soester, Anders Nilsson, Brad Wilson & Ryan Drzik round out the top five.
The All-Time conference leaders are the same as this season's conference winners aside from Ryan Drzik leading the All-Time Midwest Conference standings.
The All-Time leaders by tier are Brad Wilson (1), Jay Soester (2), Anders Nilsson (3), Ryan Drzik (4) & Mike Miles (5).

You can track the All-Time Championship standings and All-Time standings for available games each week via the History Section.

With the official results from 2009-2010, I can also announce the 2010-2011 ASASFL Qualifiers. For the qualification rules, go to the ASASFL qualification page. For the breakdown of how each member qualified, go to the ASASFL 2010-2011 Member Qualification List.

Congrats to the Champions League Qualifiers: Anders Nilsson, Mike Miles, Jay Soester, Brad Wilson, Robert Casares, Ryan Drzik, Nathan Susanto, Aaron Freeman, Russ Goatcher, Tim Schneider, Vern Lemke, Nick Hall, Tyson Hester, and Bill Isley.

Congrats also go to the Super League Qualifiers: Aaron Burton, John Wright, Robert Flatt, Kevin Whorton, David Synychak, Christian Giovannetti, Doyle Ashe, Greg Krause, Ed Peck, Chad Luik, Andrew Senger, Don Greenslate, Jason Oroszi, and Susan Gantz.

And finally, kudos to the Third League Qualifiers: Brad Wilson, Anders Nilsson, Mike Miles, Kevin Whorton, Andrew Senger, Nick Hall, Jason Oroszi, Don Greenslate, John Galvano, Tim Schneider, Kraig Monkman, Robert Casares, Ryan Drzik, and Nathan Susanto.

The qualifications are still subject to change pending response from each member, but those listed have earned the honor of being called the top performers of the 2009-2010 season. Fantasy Football league and draft information will be emailed once I've finished setting up the drafts for each league. The Champions League draft order is determined by each member picking their draft spot with the order of spot selection being determined by the final standings from the 2009-2010 season.

2010-2011 News & Information

I'll begin with the 2009-2010 Review Survey. All members should submit a survey to help me shape the league going forward. Your submission will help me determine which things on my to do list get tackled first along with other key ideas for the league going forward. Those who do submit a survey will receive up to seven bonus points for their submission. If you have any questions about the survey feel free to email me.

Current things on my to do list include: improving the domain front, adding sessions to the league drafts and fantasy games, adding a FAQ section, finishing the History Section, moving all unofficial games from the message board to the website, improving the overall standings page to include current ASASFL qualifiers, improving the website's navigation to automatically display the tab for the section of the website you're viewing, creating an ASFL2 News Section and creating a points log database for faster, easier, updates and a better ability to create more detailed standings and statistics. As of now I'm leaning toward moving the official games still on the message board to the website before moving on to improving the general aspects of the website and then coming back to moving unofficial games or games played through Yahoo! to the website. There are also a number of things not on the public list that need to be worked on behind the scenes, including adding the ability to set a list for each round of draft on the website in time for the Fantasy Football drafts.

The most pressing information for the 2010-2011 season is the Fantasy Football draft times being available. I need each member's draft preferences via email or reply to this thread as soon as possible. The available times are (all ET):
Wednesday, August 25th at 8:30 PM
Thursday, August 26th at 8:15 PM
Saturday, August 28th at 3:45 PM
Monday, August 30th at 8:45 PM
Tuesday, August 31st at 10:30 PM
Wednesday, September 1st at 9:30 PM
Thursday, September 2nd at 10:00 PM
Friday, September 3rd at 9:00 PM
Saturday, September 4th at 7:15 PM
Sunday, September 5th at 5:45 PM
& an autopick.

I hope to give out league designations in the next 10 days.

It should also be noted that a portion of this season's review survey hopes to improve on the times the league makes available for all draft sports.

The sixth fantasy game of the season, Fantasy Premier League, should be available in the next few days based on Yahoo!'s past time frames. Please watch for a league ID and password on the league message board and website in the next week. Fantasy Premier League is run through Yahoo! Eurosport, the game page can be found here.

If you've moved within the last year and are now in a different part of the country (or a different country), please let me know so I can update your location in the league database and subsequently any potential conference changes.

And finally, every member has the opportunity to reintroduce themselves via 2010-2011's New Member Introduction Thread for a bonus point.

The winnings breakdown can be found here. If you have any questions about the Money Leagues, please email me. Payments are currently accepted via PayPal, check or Western Union, though I'm open to other options. Winnings are sent via check or PayPal with up to five separate participants walking away with money.

There's news in the second most important sub-section of the website as well.

The deadline to select players to be kept for next season in ASFL2 Keeper Leagues Fantasy Football leagues is July 21st at 11:59 PM ET. If you have any questions regarding the process please email me. I hope to fill a few more of the vacancies before the deadline, but those who are given a team after the deadline will still be allowed to choose players to be kept for the coming season in the same manner anyone else would.
Due to the lack of qualified applicants, and an unfortunate need for funds, I may need to open a bidding process for open teams in the Premier and/or Second Divisions. As of now I expect two to four teams to be open for bidding if I decide to go through with the process, if you're interested email me.
