ASFL2 Newsletter #17 (8/8/11)

It's officially the busiest period of the year. Time for a newsletter.

Games Available

There are seven official games available for sign up with two more unofficial games available. Three of the official games and one of the unofficial games will be run through the ASFL2 website.

I'll start with the official games.

Fantasy Premier League is the first of the fall games to begin as the Premier League season starts this Saturday, August 13th. The game is run through Yahoo! Eurosport and the ID is 7979 with a password of 123456.

The second game, College Football Pickem is the second game to begin as the college season starts on Thursday, September 1st. The first pick will likely be due Friday, September 2nd or Saturday, September 3rd, however. I hope this will be the last edition of College Football Pickem run through Yahoo!, the ID is 418 and the password is 123456.

The rest of the official games revolve around the NFL:

Fantasy Football Draft Times have been available for over two months. If you still haven't given me your preference, please reply this thread on the message board or email me your top few choices from this list:

Sunday, August 28th at 5 PM ET
Tuesday, August 30th at 9:30 PM ET
Wednesday, August 31st at 10:30 PM ET
Thursday, September 1st at 9:45 PM ET
Saturday, September 3rd at 4 PM ET
Sunday, September 4th at 6:45 PM ET
Monday, September 5th at 9:15 PM ET
Tuesday, September 6th at 11 PM ET
Wednesday, September 7th at 8:45 PM ET
& an autopick

Those who fail to give me a draft time or otherwise respond will be docked bonus points and could be locked out of Fantasy Baseball or removed from Fantasy Golf and/or Fantasy NASCAR, as per league rules.
I hope to send all league designations out by next Friday at the latest, this includes those who've already given me a draft preference, but haven't received their league yet. The NFL season begins on Thursday, September 8th.

The other Yahoo!-based, NFL game, Salary Cap Football is making its return after a one year hiatus. Yahoo! moved the game to Facebook last season, but ASFL2 didn't follow. This season, the game will return to its old spot in Tier 4 of the official games list. The ASFL2 group ID is 177 and the password is 123456. The game's return likely means MLB Day-to-Day Pickem won't be moved to official game status in the event of a lost NBA season.

The first of the three NFL games to be run through the website this season has always been run by the league. The deadline for entries in NFL Standings Pickem is 8:27 PM ET on Thursday, September 8th. Make sure to follow the directions regarding game totals and to submit the standings portion of your entry before the playoffs portion.

The second of the three games, NFL Pickem, is the first game to be moved from Yahoo! to the league website. The game format will change with the move as instead of simply picking the winner, you'll now be predicting the score of each game. Your game score will be based on your predicted result, margin of victory and each team's predicted score.

The final game is brand new. NFL Locks will replace Survival Pickem in Tier 4 of the official games list and is meant to play along the same vein. Instead of picking a single winner each week, you'll pick between three and five winners that you feel the most confident in. You'll be scored based on their results, margin of victory and the weight you put on the pick.

Survival Pickem will remain in the loop as an unofficial game, still run through Yahoo!, the ID is 2917 and the password is 123456. I hope to move the game to the website next season, but it will remain an unofficial game.

The final game available is Premier League Pickem. It's also brand new and will begin life as an unofficial game with the number of bonus points likely to be similar to the amount awarded for MLB Day-to-Day Pickem. Premier League Pickem may replace Fantasy Premier League on the official game list in a few seasons.

Aside from the games currently available, watch out for Fantasy Hockey and/or Fantasy Basketball information in the next 2-6 weeks.

Other Competitions Information

With Fantasy Football being available, the league's other competitions also have sign up and draft information.

All ASASFL and Keeper Leagues drafts are available. Here's the list of links and tentative start times:

ASASFL:
Champions League: Saturday, August 13th at Midnight ET
Super League: Thursday, August 11th at Midnight ET
Third League: Tuesday, August 9th at Midnight ET

Keeper Leagues:
Premier Division: Wednesday, August 17th at Midnight ET
Second Division: Friday, August 19th at Midnight ET
Third Division: Monday, August 15th at Midnight ET
Fourth Division: Saturday, August 20th at Midnight ET

Please make sure to note that with all drafts starting at midnight ET, you may need to make sure your pick is taken care of the night before with the first picks of each draft likely to expire around noon on the first day of the draft.

I've attempted to introduce sessions to the drafts from this point forward. The new feature will allow you to avoid entering your name and password on all draft pages as had been the case in the past. Once you've entered them on one page they should be stored as you go around the other pages of the draft until the information times-out. Please let me know of any mistakes that may have come about as a result of the changes as soon as you notice them.

All Yahoo! league IDs and passwords have also been emailed, if you did not receive your ID and password, please email the commissioner for the information. The member roster for the each division of the Keeper Leagues and for the ASASFL Super League is being finalized and that may result in the draft being pushed back a bit. Please monitor the website and your inbox for information if you're in those leagues.

If you're interested in a Keeper Leagues Fantasy Football team, you can submit a bid for one of the ten available teams. Please, check the bids list and bid introduction page to see the teams available and how the bid system works, respectively. If you have any questions feel free to contact the commissioner. If you're interested in a Fantasy Hockey team, you can submit a bid here. I hope to begin handing out Keeper Leagues Football teams within the next 36 hours or so. Get your bid in as soon as possible. If you've already submitted a bid, remember to update it with your new statistics.

Not to be forgotten (I hope), the ASFL2 Money Leagues are currently accepting sign ups for Fantasy Football.

Fantasy Football features three pre-set leagues with prices of $20 or $25.:

League 1:
Price: $25
Draft Type: Slow
Team Range: 10-12

League 2:
Price: $25
Draft Type: Slow
Team Range: 8-10

League 3:
Price: $20
Draft Type: Live @ 3:30 PM ET on Sunday, September 4th
Team Range: 10-14

If interested, fill out the purchase form. Payment and league ID information will be displayed on the next page. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email the commissioner.

On the Horizon

As the coming games settle in, I'll be devoting my time back toward finding a job. Unfortunately, the economy still isn't cooperating. Once I have a job, it'll be easier for me to allocate my time toward new things for the league and have a time frame in mind for getting things done.

When all that's sorted out, I'll continue work on instituting sessions throughout the website. Hopefully by now most of you have noticed the features related to them through the Fantasy Games section and the newer standings pages. To fully implement sessions throughout the website, I need to alter about 7 lines of code on each page. I've lost track of how many pages are on the website, but it's well north of 1,000 and may have passed 10,000 by now. Full implementation will be a slow process, but a decent portion of the pages aren't accessed regularly.

Beyond that, my focus is likely to fall on moving or creating games for the Fantasy Games section of the website. Moving Fantasy NASCAR and College Football Pickem to the website are likely to move to the top of the list in terms of Yahoo! game movement, while moving CFL and AFL Pickem to the Fantasy Games section from the message board is also a priority. I'm also toying with the idea of creating a game on the website for the NHL and/or NBA postseasons, but the NBA lockout is hindering those thoughts. Beyond that, if Fantasy NASCAR makes its way onto the website, Fantasy F1 and IRL may not be far behind depending on the adaptability of the Fantasy NASCAR structures.

Aside from games, recruiting new members, improving the front page of the domain, re-doing the Keeper Leagues scoring system, and setting up an FAQ section are at the forefront of my mind.

Removing Yourself From the Newsletter List

I've finally fully automated the newsletter process to where they are now sent automatically through the website instead of my email account and they are not sent to members that are deemed retired, inactive, or banned.

If you want to be removed from the newsletter's email list, you need to update your Member Profile, including your status and which games you do or do not want to participate in.

I hope to have the option for active members to no longer receive the newsletter emails in the future.

I've also added a "Forgot Password" button to the edit member profile page.
