ASFL2 Newsletter #3 (3/19/08)

Welcome to March. Two games have been running for months, another three start in the next week.

Game Info

The field has now been set for NCAA Tournament Pickem and you'll need to get your bracket put together by noon Thursday morning eastern time. I won't accept any new members to the group past 5 PM EST Thursday. The ID is 822 and the password is 123456.
The top 60 members in the group will earn at least one point. I will be modifying the rules page to reflect how points will be given out for this year. A standings page won't be put on the site until after the tournament is over.

MLB Standings Pickem is due at noon EST on March 31st. Please read the first post of the thread carefully as the template must be followed to assure yourself of not receiving any penalties.

All Fantasy Baseball leagues are now full. After recruiting non-stop for about 6-8 weeks, I'm finally free. There are 132 teams in the 10 leagues. I will not be updating the overall standings particularly regularly, so don't be alarmed if they're not updated for weeks at a time- it was mostly put together to help me and the assistant commissioners sort out who belonged where. At the end of the year I will add all the other factors that determine your points earned for Fantasy Baseball to the page- playoff results, modified rotisserie and weekly win/loss standings and - your leagues place in reference to the other leagues. I will rank each league 1-10 at the end of the season based on each of the 10 stat totals accumulated divided by the number of teams; from there I will put together overall rotisserie standings for the leagues themselves and then your leagues place in reference to the other leagues could earn you more points in the standings.

Here are the names, emails, AIM sns and board IDs for each of the respective league commissioners:

Non-Game Info

I want to touch on a few things that are being sorted out that will hopefully improve your experience in the league and how the league runs.

I have finally settled on a prize system. The top 3 members in the final standings will be given shirts created by myself as prizes to commemorate the accomplishments. Depending on the amount of money the site generates in the next year, I may send out shirts to all conference champions and perhaps more than that (most bonus points, individual game wins, etc). The shirts (and other merchandise) will be available for purchase to anyone later in the year, once the Logo Contest has provided a winner. Thus far, the contest has had one official entry and another unofficial entry.

Now that I'm essentially done recruiting and the member list should stay somewhat stable for the foreseeable future I hope to put together a divisions list in the coming weeks for the 5 conferences with 30+ members (sorry Mid-Atlantic and International Members). They will either be posted in the Conferences thread in the League Office section or they'll get their own thread- watch the League Office section for updates, they'll likely also be linked from the front page of the site.

I also want to touch on bonus points once again. In the first newsletter I said how they can be earned:

"-Adding Yourself to the Frappr Map
-Being Active (posting primarily) on the league message board; not on the boards within the yahoo leagues and bringing activity from others; dynasties included.
-Answering trivia questions on the message board, in the bottom section.
-Coming up with a website poll question that is used. (there is now a thread on the League Office section of the message board to suggest them)
-Doing Assignments that help the commish, posted in the League Office section primarily, but sometimes other sections of the message board.
-points can be lost for not following directions and for breaking rules, cheating, spamming, etc."

You can also earn bonus points via unofficial games on the message board that don't count for championship points.

and part of their purpose:

"There will be a maximum amount on the number of BPs that will count toward the final standings, likely to be 15% (though the number may change) of the top point total not factoring them in. If someone has earned more than that number of points, they won't be added to their championship total, but the bonus point totals will be used as a means of tiebreaking in the final standings."

They will also be used to determine who gets a second team in any fantasy game that involves a draft where I may need to fill holes in leagues.

I'm also looking for any other ideas on how to earn bonus points or how bonus points can be used. Please reply to the Bonus Points Standings thread with your ideas.

And finally, in an effort to help those of you who haven't participated much on the website, I'm announcing a desire to put together a feedback form and a message board tutorial. Whenever I have the time to finish the feedback form it will be linked from the website. I'm looking for ideas - and those who are used to the message board - to help me with the tutorial- I may create a thread on the message board for ideas, but for now just reply to the newsletter thread. I also hope to put together an AIM buddy list with league members in the coming weeks, if your sn isn't on the members page please email it to me.

Please keep up with the message board and the news section on the main page of the site for updates.

For those of you receiving this who aren't in a fantasy baseball league, you're not confirmed. You need to join one of the fantasy games currently running and reply to the New Member Introduction Thread in the League Office section to become confirmed.

You can read the first and second newsletters here.

If you're reading this on the website because you didn't get the email, please make sure emails from commish@theasfl.com is set to not go to your junk/bulk mail.
