ASFL2 Newsletter #8 (2/13/09)

I'm starting this at 1:30 AM, so I'm going to try to get to the point quickly throughout.

2008-2009 Season

The 2008-09 season is starting to wrap up. There are five games currently running with just NHL and NBA Playoffs Pickem to go which both start in April. Keep an eye on the standings pages as the season wraps up.

You could be hunting for a conference championship or a place in next seasons Champions, Super or Third League without knowing it. I posted the determined qualification methods about a month ago, they can be found via this link. If you have any questions feel free to reply to the thread.

Don't forget your bonus point total will be factored into the final standings once all championship points have been given out, its not too late to earn bonus points- the cutoff will probably by June 1st.

2009-2010 Season

The 2009-10 season is about to kick into gear (no pun intended) with Fantasy NASCAR starting this Sunday and Fantasy Baseball now in the planning stages. NCAA Tournament Pickem should be available toward the end of the month as well with MLB Standings Pickem starting as the calendar turns to March.

If you haven't stumbled upon it yet, the overall standings page for Fantasy Golf can be found here. The Fantasy NASCAR overall standings page will be located here.

The ID for Fantasy NASCAR is 140 and the password is 123456. If you haven't joined yet, please do so before the season starts so that you aren't at a disadvantage. If you don't plan on participating please let me know or you may be docked bonus points.

I've set up 10 leagues for Fantasy Baseball, the same total as last year. The thread to post your time preferences on has been up for two days.

The times to choose from are:

Wednesday, March 18th at 9:15 PM EST
Thursday, March 19th at 8 PM EST
Saturday, March 21st at 8:15 PM EST
Sunday, March 22nd at 6 PM EST
Monday, March 23rd at 8:30 PM EST
Tuesday, March 24th at 10:30 PM EST
Wednesday, March 25th at 9 PM EST
Thursday, March 26th at 9:30 PM EST
Saturday, March 28th at 7:15 PM EST
& an autopick league.

The season starts April 5th, but Yahoo! hadn't set up drafts to be scheduled after March 29th when I set up the leagues.

There is room for 120-140 members to participate, but there is an outside chance with recruiting and the present total of members that more than 140 spots could be needed. If I feel there will need to be another league, it will be an autopick league and would be created toward the beginning of March. Please tell me your draft time preferences as soon as possible to help ensure that you aren't left with a bad time or without a team. You can either reply to the thread or reply to this email with the times you can make in order of preference.

Watch your inbox for your league ID and password sometime in early March, or at least monitor the league website and message board for the official word that they've been sent out. If after your draft time has been assigned you discover that you need a different time you can reply to the thread asking another member to switch draft times with you. From there you and the other member can work with me to make it happen, do not do it yourself.

If you don't plan to participate in Fantasy Baseball you need to inform me or you will lose bonus points.

Only confirmed members will be placed in Fantasy Baseball leagues. In order to be confirmed, you need to have replied to the New Member Introduction Thread in the League Office section of the message board and you must be in a Yahoo! group for at least one of our two other currently running sports. Once you are confirmed, there will be an asterisk next to your name on the members page.

ASFL2 Keeper Leagues

I'd also like to announce a new venture for ASFL2, keeper leagues. The leagues will cover the four draft sports. The new keeper leagues website is now up, but I'm still trying to finish putting it together through my busy schedule. Please bare with me until I can complete it.

If you're unfamiliar with what a keeper league is, its rather straight forward; you keep a set amount of players from year-to-year instead of redrafting an entire team each season.

The rules are far too in-depth for me to really get into in this email, but the rules page is available on the keeper league website, if you'd like to join you'll need to fill out the sign-up form. Even if you've replied to the info thread on the message board you'll need to fill out the signup form to be placed in the leagues.

There will be an overall points competition within the keeper leagues that mirrors the regular ASFL2 championship. In an effort to allow for participation for as many members as possible each sport will have multiple leagues with promotion and relegation between each league with quality designations. Go to the rules page for more information on the format.

After the first season all drafts will be done through the league message board. Some (or all) drafts for the first season may be done through the message board as well. Please try to become familiar with how to use the message board if you do want to join.

After you fill out the sign-up form, please monitor the message board and your inbox for information on your league designation and your league's draft time and/or format. This thread will be used to discuss draft times for each league leading up to the official league designations.

All placements will be determined toward the start of March with your 2008-09 championship point total determining where you are placed. If you choose to not sign up for all four sports you may be moved to a lower division in order to allow for those who'd like to compete for the overall championship to do so.

If you have any questions about how things work, please reply to this info thread in the new Keeper Leagues section of the message board.

Don't forget to check the website and message board for standings updates during the season. Fantasy Game standings updates included.

If you're reading this on the website because you didn't get the email, please make sure emails from commish@theasfl.com is set to not go to your junk/bulk mail.
