Premier League Week 11 Preview
2:48 PM on October 30th, 2015 by Nathan Susanto

Message Board

Congrats to Charles Yelverton on top-scoring in Premier League Pickem in week 10. Yelverton notched 34 points, the second best score of the season, while Brad Duff earned the runners-up spot with 27 points. Fred Lasso (25), Andy Nemecek and Nathan Susanto (both 24) rounded out the top 5. Yelverton and Duff made the most correct picks (7), while Yelverton excelled with the most perfect games (4).

It was a decent week for the participants, with week 10's average per pick made of 2.044 ranking fifth for the term. Participants were unanimous in their backing of Tottenham and Spurs recorded a 5-1 victory over Bournemouth. However, the fixture that yielded the highest points average was Everton at Arsenal. The Gunners won 2-1 and that led to a 2.36 points average. Meanwhile, no participant predicted a Watford victory and the Hornets shocked Stoke to win 2-0. This resulted in the lowest points average of the week, 0.03, the joint-second lowest of the season.

Andrew Maher still occupies top spot of the overall standings with a quarter of the season in the books. Maher (234) leads Dario Ambrozewiez (213) by 21 points, with Skip Wilson (211) just two points further back. Steve Steffy (206) and George Brady (204) complete the top 5. Maher has gained the most correct picks (50) and perfect games (16).

Arguably the most intriguing matchup this weekend kicks off week 11's slate; Liverpool, led by Jürgen Klopp, the self-proclaimed "Normal One", clashes with Chelsea, who has the self-styled "Special One" José Mourinho at the helm.

Remember to make your Premier League Pickem predictions before the deadline of each game. Week 11's schedule starts on Saturday with a 8:45 AM ET kickoff. There are then six 11 AM ET games. Sunday has two fixtures; the first beginning at 8:30 AM ET, while the second starts at 11 AM ET. The week concludes on Monday with a 3 PM ET matchup.

Here we preview the ten games in the upcoming week of the English Premier League. The title of each game section is a link to pick the result of that game.

Liverpool (9th) at Chelsea (15th) (Sat, 8:45 AM ET)

Liverpool has now produced a five-game unbeaten streak in the league but they're struggling to finish teams off. The current run includes four ties out of five and no club has notched in more than Liverpool's five league ties. Only two teams have scored fewer than Liverpool's nine goals. However, Liverpool beat Bournemouth 1-0 in the League Cup. Chelsea's season hit a new low in midweek when they were dumped out of the League Cup by Stoke, who played extra-time a man down. In the league, only three teams have conceded more than Chelsea; the champions had the best defense last season. Their only victory in the last four outings was against Aston Villa, who is currently bottom.

Manchester United (4th) at Crystal Palace (7th) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

Manchester United look more like title contenders this time around compared to David Moyes' ill-fated campaign but they've had mixed results in October. Since four wins in a row in all competitions, United has just one victory in five games. Last week they tied 0-0 with Manchester City but they lost to Middlesbrough on penalties in the League Cup. With ten games in the books, Crystal Palace has yet to record a tie. The only time Palace was tied after 90 minutes was when they eventually defeated Shrewsbury 4-1 in the League Cup's first round. Crystal Palace has lost four out of their last six matches in the league and in midweek they were routed 5-1 by Manchester City in the League Cup.

Norwich City (16th) at Manchester City (1st) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

At the end of September, it looked as if Norwich was enjoying life back in the Premier League. They've experienced a tough period since, however, and they head into this difficult looking fixture hoping to end a three-game skid. Two of those defeats were by the odd-goal but they were also beaten 6-2 by Newcastle. Norwich last won six matches ago. Manchester City's perfect start to the season has long gone but they're still top of the standings on goal difference. A five-game winning streak to begin the campaign was followed by successive defeats by West Ham and Tottenham but they've recovered and have won two and tied one since. In midweek, City beat Crystal Palace 5-1 in the League Cup.

Stoke City (14th) at Newcastle United (19th) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

Just when it looked as if Stoke was on the rise up the league standings, they suffered a shock defeat last time out. The Potters had a poor start to the term, accruing just two points in their opening five matches. However, they then went on a four-game unbeaten run, including three wins on the bounce. Stoke lost 2-0 to Watford last week, though. Newcastle has been in a serious funk for much of the last two calendar years and a defeat at the hands of their local rivals last week compounded the club's misery. The Magpies' fragile defense is a major weakness and no team has a worst defensive record in the league. Newcastle's last home appearance, though, produced their first win of the term.

Arsenal (2nd) at Swansea City (12th) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

After last Saturday's 2-1 victory over Everton, Arsenal hit the summit of the division for the first time since 2014. They've since dropped to second but they boast the longest current winning streak in the league. The Gunners hope to extend their run of four wins in a row and bounce back from their shock League Cup exit to Sheffield Wednesday. Swansea began this term well but they suddenly hit a rough patch of form. The Swans went on a five-match winless stretch in the division, losing three times and tying twice, and they were also eliminated from the League Cup by lower league opposition. Swansea stopped the rot last time out, however, beating Aston Villa 2-1 with a late winner.

West Ham United (3rd) at Watford (13th) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

In the first half of last term, West Ham was a constant fixture in the upper echelons of the league and they've begun this campaign in much the same vein. The Hammers lost to Leicester and Bournemouth in weeks 2 and 3 but they've since produced a seven-match unbeaten streak. This includes defeating Crystal Palace and Chelsea in their last two. Watford has scored a league-low eight goals but their solid defense has helped them remain above the drop zone so far this term. The Hornets have kept four cleansheets in their opening ten games, including last week against Stoke where they ran out 2-0 winners. It helped Watford snap a three-match winless stretch where they scored just once.

Leicester City (5th) at West Bromwich Albion (10th) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

In Leicester's last encounter they overcame Crystal Palace 1-0; it was the Foxes' first cleansheet of the season in all competitions. Leicester has scored in every game in the campaign and their only league defeat was a 5-2 loss against Arsenal. Since that loss, Leicester has gone three games unbeaten, though in midweek they exited the League Cup. West Brom has risen to midtable despite starting the season poorly. The Baggies picked up one point in their opening three matches but the following three fixtures yielded two victories and a tie. They then suffered a setback, losing twice in a row. However, West Brom is now on a two-match winning streak having won 1-0 in their last two outings.

Sunderland (18th) at Everton (11th) (Sun, 8:30 AM ET)

Sunderland has suffered a torrid start to their campaign but last time out they finally found success. The Black Cats have dwelled in the bottom three for most of the campaign and they headed into last weekend's local derby clash on the back of losing four matches out of five. However, they defeated Newcastle 3-0, their first victory of the season. Everton, on the other hand, is looking to get back on the winning trail having slumped in October. The Toffees had moved into the top half of the standings after putting together a five-game unbeaten run. However, they've now lost two league games in a row and have no win in three. Everton beat Norwich in the League Cup on penalties, though.

A.F.C. Bournemouth (17th) at Southampton (8th) (Sun, 11 AM ET)

When the season got under way, it looked as if Bournemouth would be able to rely on a solid backline. However, it's been a tough few weeks and they've now conceded the joint-most goals in the division. Their winless streak sits at four matches and they've lost their last two 5-1. Bournemouth was also dumped out of the League Cup by Liverpool. Southampton has moved into the quarterfinals of the League Cup, however, after eliminating Aston Villa in midweek. The Saints are also on a decent run in the league and they haven't lost since September. Their current unbeaten stretch has reached four games but Southampton has had to settle for a share of the spoils in their last two matches.

Aston Villa (20th) at Tottenham Hotspur (6th) (Mon, 3 PM ET)

Tim Sherwood's time as Aston Villa boss has ended having been in charge for less than a season. Caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald takes over with Villa bottom of the table. They're looking to end a six-match losing streak and Villa has failed to win since the opening day of the season. Villa lost to Southampton in the League Cup in midweek, too. Tottenham, in contrast, lost their first game of the campaign but they've been undefeated in the league since. It took Spurs until week 5 to record their first victory, though, but it was Tottenham who ended Manchester City's perfect start to the season. Spurs had tied two matches on the bounce before they thrashed Bournemouth 5-1 last weekend.
