Tidbits |
• Dan Thomas and John Dipinto each had three players score in double digits in the league 1 third place game, but Thomas' trio each had 20 or more while Dipinto's all had 16 or less. Thomas' trio of Tom Brady (34), Randy Moss (22) & Arizona's D (20) would have beaten Dipinto by themselves by a score of 76-69. Brady alone had half a point short of half of Dipinto's total.
• Chad Luik came a DeSean Jackson point and four Nate Kaeding points away from having an entire lineup in double digits in the league 2 championship game. It was just enough to overcome Christian Giovannetti's two 20 or more scorers in a three point win.
• Deyanius Blackmon had scored 55 points through Sunday's NFL games in league 3's third place game. He scored 42 points on MNF through Jay Cutler (31), Percy Harvin (4) & Ryan Longwell (7).
• Will Moore scored 115 points to win league 4 and have the highest total among all four teams competing in the final weekend. This came a week after needing the tiebreaker to advance to the championship with a 66 point performance.
• Russ Goatcher averaged 96.9 points per game in the regular season in league 5 and put up 123 points in the semifinals. His squad only mustered 67 points in the championship.
• Every score from 92 to 97 was represented by a team in a 14-team league this week.
• League 6's championship game saw Tom Buske fail to have a single player score in double digits. Four players scored a single point or less. His opponent, Vern Lemke saw his two high scorers (Adrian Peterson- 20 & Brent Celek- 18) top that total combined.
• Four teams among all 14-team leagues scored between 101 and 105 points this week. There were the only teams to score 100+ points in 14-team leagues.
• Kevin Whorton saw Roddy White (25) & Aaron Rodgers (15) combine to score 54.1% of his total (74) in league 8's championship game.
• Nicholas Alicea saw seven of his players score in double digits to win the league 9 championship. He was projected for a 105-101 loss, but won 103-84 as his opponent only saw three of his players score in double digits.
• Nick Hall saw Aaron Rodgers (15), Randy Moss (22) & Arizona's D (20) score 79.2% of his opponents total in winning the third place game of league 9.
• Top seeds went 5-5 on the final weekend of the season. Four of nine won championships which was good for the most titles of any seeding despite being below .500. The overall scoring average was 91.6 points, but the championship scoring average was 89.7 points, the worst of any seed with more than one team in a championship. Three total top seeds scored 100+ points with one of them being in a third place game.
• Two seeds also went 5-5 for the final week of the season with a record of 3-1 in championship games, the second most titles of any seed. The overall seed average of 93.6 points per team was the best for the week with the championship average of 105.5 for four teams also leading the way as all four teams scored 100+ points. The 2-4 record in third place games drug down the record as those team scored an average of 85.7 points per game.
• Three seeds went 4-3 overall, but 2-3 in championship games with an average score of 92.4 points per game overall and 90.2 points per championship game. The perfect 2-0 record in third place games saw an average point total of 98 points with one of them scoring 100+ points of the two total three seeds over 100 points.
• Four seeds went 2-4 on the final weekend with an average score of 80.2 points and one team over 100 points. No four seed qualified for a league championship.
• The lone five seed to qualify for a championship game was the only non-top three seeded team to win a league championship and scored 103 points in doing so. He helped pick up the seed average from 76.7 in third place games with one team over 100 points to an overall average of 83.3 points. Despite the lowest average in third place games, five seeds went 2-1 in them.
• Six seeds had by far the lowest scoring average with an overall average of 64.7 and a 1-2 record. Without including the lone six seed to make a championship game's 36 point output in a loss, the average was 79 points with no team scoring over 100 points.
• League 2 was the only league to see it's two championship participants score 100 points or more.
• League 3, league 7 and league 8 all saw both championship participants score under 100 points.
• Four leagues saw the third place winner out score the champion- league 3 (97 to 94), league 7 (103 to 101), league 8 (102 to 91) and league 9 (109 to 103).
• All ten league had their first pick of the draft be Adrian Peterson. Only three teams with first pick in the draft back in August qualified for the playoffs with half of them finishing in a double digit position (three in 11th, one each in 12th and 13th). Two who qualified for the playoffs were eliminated in the first round. Only one member with first pick made a championship game, let alone won it, with Vern Lemke in league 6 pulling off the feat. Think twice when you wish for first pick in the draft next season. The average finishing position for those that picked first in their league's draft was 7.4.
• Only two members who won their league picked in the top five picks of their draft. The most frequent spot amongst winners was 6th with three members, ninth and tenth each had two members select in that location with first, fifth and twelfth also making appearances.
• League Winner drafting positions and selections: LG1- 9th (Chris Johnson), LG2- 6th (Drew Brees), LG3- 6th (DeAngelo Williams), LG4- 10th (Drew Brees), LG5- 10th (Randy Moss), LG6- 1st (Adrian Peterson), LG7- 5th (Larry Fitzgerald), LG8- 12th (Chris Johnson & Andre Johnson 13th), LG9- 6th (Brian Westbrook- astounding), LG10- 9th (Drew Brees).
• League Runner-Up drafting positions and selections: LG1- 3rd (Maurice Jones-Drew), LG2- 2nd (Maurice Jones-Drew), LG3- 14th (Andre Johnson & Aaron Rodgers 15th), LG4- 7th (DeAngelo Williams), LG5- 3rd (Maurice Jones-Drew), LG6- 6th (Steven Jackson), LG7- 7th (DeAngelo Williams), LG8- 5th (Matt Forte), LG9- 12th (Steve Slaton & Drew Brees 13th), LG10- 4th (Matt Forte).
• The only regular season top seed not included on that list picked ninth in league 9 and chose Larry Fitzgerald.

Conrad had the high point total during the regular season while Lebron was the top seed. Lebron had more players in double digits, but Conrad had two with 20 points or more compared to one for Lebron. Ultimately the hole from Mike Sims-Walker, Braylon Edwards and Fred Davis did Lebron in and led to the defeat, despite Conrad only getting two and a half quarters from Peyton Manning. If Lebron had played Santana Moss over Mike Sims-Walker and Carnell Williams over Maurice Jones-Drew, he would have won by four points.

Heading into MNF, Giovannetti needed 14 points from Visanthe Shiancoe to win the league. After Marion Barber scored 13 points for Luik on SNF when the two had been tied at the start of the game. Luik was the heavy favorite so long as Shiancoe didn't find the end zone. Luik continued to live comfortably until Shiancoe hit pay dirt with 1:18 left in the third quarter. Unfortunately for Giovannetti, Shiancoe would only catch one more pass for 18 yards before getting hurt in the fourth quarter.
You may have been wondering if Carson Palmer led Giovannetti to the championship game. He didn't, Giovannetti left Brett Favre on the bench and lost 8 points in the process. Putting Todd Heap in for Visanthe Shiancoe would have given him a two point win and putting in Rashard Mendenhall for Fred Jackson would have led to the same score line.

Macaluso led 76-72 heading into MNF, but unless Brett Favre laid the same egg against the Bears that he did against the Panthers, the matchup was going to be Miles. After the first quarter, Favre had put up a score of negative one. Favre still hadn't achieved a positive total at halftime. It wasn;t until there was 6:22 to go in the third quarter that Favre finally tied the matchup and it wasn't until his first TD pass with 1:18 left in the third quarter that the game was feasibly out of reach.
The most Macaluso would have gained from a perfect lineup was 92 points.

Heading into MNF, Goatcher needed 40 points to win the championship. I believe a defense only eclipsed the 40 point mark once all season. It didn't happen this week. Goatcher dominated the league through the regular season, but collapsed in the championship. Goatcher left 31 points on his bench with a perfect lineup.

I'll start by saying Buske was projected by Yahoo! to score 80 points. I'll follow by saying a full game from Peyton Manning & any portion of a game from Steven Jackson and he likely finishes with a score that's somewhere near respectable. He left 21 points on his bench. The five players that didn't score in double figures for Lemke would have lost to Buske's entire lineup by just seven points.

Oake was involved in all four trades in the league through the season. He acquired Chris Johnson, DeAngelo Williams, Calvin Johnson, Reggie Wayne & Terrell Owens and rode them and Tom Brady to a championship. Spencer gave Oake DeAngelo Williams & Calvin Johnson for Vincent Jackson, Ryan Grant, Kevin Walter & Jamaal Charles. The trade was a big benefit for him in the game, but still not enough to overcome Brady's 34 points with Chris Johnson's 18 and Dallas' D's 16.

Susanto scored 12 points less than his Yahoo! projection, but Whorton topped that by finishing 14 points below his. Whorton only trailed by 10 heading into MNF, and needed Matt Forte to out score Sidney Rice by 11 for the win. In the dying moments of the game, Whorton needed Minnesota to tie it up to have a chance in overtime, but when Rice caught the touchdown to send it into overtime the matchup was decided.

Alicea became the only non-top three seed to win an ASFL2 league this season with the victory. Chris Johnson led the way for him over the second half of the season and finished with the most points for him yet again. Alicea was one of two ASFL2 members ranked 100th or higher to win a football league with 45 championship points and tied for 100th. Will Moore was the only member with a lower ranking (105th- 40 points), but he joined later in the season.

•Mike Miles 103, Susan Gantz 102 (LG7)- If this wasn't championship week this would likely have been the game of the week (and probably season) going away. If it had been the championship game of league 7, it would easily be the game of the year. Miles needed 18 points from Sidney Rice & Ryan Longwell on MNF to win. It didn't look like he had a chance until the fourth quarter and it still wasn't looking good until the Vikings final drive inched toward the end zone. When Rice caught the ball in the end zone the matchup was tied and Miles had the tiebreaker. Longwell's extra point gave Miles the win outright, but an overtime Rice fumble would have turned it into a loss.
