Merry Fall Back |
1:57 AM ET on 11/3/13 by Jay Soester |
After missing last year's edition (I wish I could remember why...) for the first time since the league was created, I'd like to wish everyone in Canada and the US (aside from those in Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico & Saskatchewan) a Merry Fall Back (sorry Europeans, you already had your fun; and I don't want to rub salt in the wound to those in the Southern Hemisphere).
I still contend this is easily one of the top ten days of the year for any American, possibly top five. Personally, I've officially moved it up to my favorite day given my age, school/employment status, location in relation to my family and religious preferences. Let me know where it ranks on your list of favorite days of the year, in this thread on the league message board.
Remember to turn your clocks back an hour to those in North America. For those of you elsewhere, remember that the time difference just adjusted back.

Update Delays |
3:40 AM ET on 12/11/12 by Jay Soester |
In an effort to save time for someone who thoroughly needs to sleep, I'm cross-posting this from somewhere else. There are likely to be delays in the usual standings updates this week and with the results for College Football Pickem as well due to the below.
My aunt finally lost her battle with breast cancer (174.9) at 5:25 Monday morning. She was only 65. She won plenty of the battles over 12 years, but the end of the war was inevitable. The last few weeks (and/or month) were a struggle and I'm glad she's at peace and left peacefully.
I'm baffled to come to the realization that she only spent two and three-quarters less years (about 10% of my life) of my life living with cancer (12) than without it (14 and three-quarters). But I am glad, for perhaps selfish reasons, that I had ample time to prepare for today.
I've learned plenty from her over the years, but from this whole ordeal my advice to everyone else is fivefold. First and foremost, if you (or someone you know) are ever diagnosed with cancer, take care of it right away. She waited six months, who knows what that time could have prevented. Second, you never know when your last time seeing a loved one will be. I knew it was a possibility any time I left, but about 12 hours before she passed I still thought she had a week left. I always made sure I exited the same way regardless. Third, get the family affairs in order well before the end. Fourth, put all grudges on hold when someone's in need, there are more important things in life and then there are only a few things that matter nearing death. Lastly, and least importantly, be careful with hospice care. They can have a limited period of time where they're getting paid and if it's home care they can have limitations to their abilities. Do as much research as possible before entrusting them to care for someone.
On a somewhat related note, always take time out of your day for humor. It's the one universal positive that can supersede whatever else is going on. Sleep's fairly important too (as much as high school me didn't believe that).

Merry Fall Back |
1:16 AM ET on 11/6/11 by Jay Soester |
As I've done every year since the league was created (technically, since 11 days before the league was created), I'd like to wish everyone in Canada and the US (aside from those in Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico & Saskatchewan) a Merry Fall Back (sorry Europeans, you already had your fun; and I don't want to rub salt in the wound to those in the Southern Hemisphere).

The Off Day |
1:03 AM ET on 7/11/11 by Jay Soester |
Today, the day before the MLB All-Star Game, is typically the only day on the yearly calendar without any ASFL2-related competition to tend to. The day after the All-Star Game features the need to prepare for the following day's MLB games while any other potential off days through the year should also fall under that premise. The day of the All-Star Game itself? Well, you need to pick one of the teams or pass the day for MLB Day-to-Day Pickem. Take the opportunity to check on your entry for MLB Standings Pickem or get your picks in early for this weekend's games in AFL Pickem and CFL Pickem
Enjoy your day off. I hope to announce a new game to be featured on the website by the end of the week. I don't get off days.

New ASFL2 Money Leagues |
3:06 PM ET on 2/12/10 by Jay Soester |
The league has opened up Money Leagues in an effort to expand the portfolio of offerings, provide a new means of competition and most importantly...raise funds for the league to make it viable for the long term.
There are four different buy-in options (three for basketball and hockey), four different league sizes, two draft options and two max transaction options. If interested, fill out the purchase form (top link on the left). If you have any questions feel free to reply to this thread or email me.
With the new addition, the league's navigation has been adjusted. The old history section is now linked from the Standings tab.
