I've sent renewal emails out to everyone from last season and co-manager invites to all assistant comissioners from last season as well.

You can use the links above to join another league and/or switch leagues. Feel free to join more than one league. If you're having trouble, please email me.

I also have a personal request.

I play on a traveling kickball team that's trying to fundraise a bit for jerseys. To help, please click this link and sign up then perform a few tasks (I didn't name the team). Most of the tasks involve Facebook and Twitter, but just signing up helps us a little bit. You don't have to do the tasks in order, and for the email invite portion you can use one of mine and/or one of the league IDs. You can undo and delete the social media items after you do them and still help us as well (i.e., delete a tweet, app or Facebook post).

Update Delays
3:40 AM ET on 12/11/12 by Jay Soester
In an effort to save time for someone who thoroughly needs to sleep, I'm cross-posting this from somewhere else. There are likely to be delays in the usual standings updates this week and with the results for College Football Pickem as well due to the below.

My aunt finally lost her battle with breast cancer (174.9) at 5:25 Monday morning. She was only 65. She won plenty of the battles over 12 years, but the end of the war was inevitable. The last few weeks (and/or month) were a struggle and I'm glad she's at peace and left peacefully.

I'm baffled to come to the realization that she only spent two and three-quarters less years (about 10% of my life) of my life living with cancer (12) than without it (14 and three-quarters). But I am glad, for perhaps selfish reasons, that I had ample time to prepare for today.

I've learned plenty from her over the years, but from this whole ordeal my advice to everyone else is fivefold. First and foremost, if you (or someone you know) are ever diagnosed with cancer, take care of it right away. She waited six months, who knows what that time could have prevented. Second, you never know when your last time seeing a loved one will be. I knew it was a possibility any time I left, but about 12 hours before she passed I still thought she had a week left. I always made sure I exited the same way regardless. Third, get the family affairs in order well before the end. Fourth, put all grudges on hold when someone's in need, there are more important things in life and then there are only a few things that matter nearing death. Lastly, and least importantly, be careful with hospice care. They can have a limited period of time where they're getting paid and if it's home care they can have limitations to their abilities. Do as much research as possible before entrusting them to care for someone.

On a somewhat related note, always take time out of your day for humor. It's the one universal positive that can supersede whatever else is going on. Sleep's fairly important too (as much as high school me didn't believe that).

Out Of Town
2:00 PM ET on 9/28/12 by Jay Soester
I'm sitting in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport waiting to board a flight to Newark currently. I'll be gone until Monday evening. I won't have access to my email, please use the message board to get a hold of me or get help in the mean time. I'll handle any pick disputes when I get back.

I need help from those with access to keep Premier League Pickem, CFL Pickem, College Football Pickem, MLB Day-to-Day Pickem, NFL Pickem and NFL Locks updated. I'll be updating where I can, but I'm unaware of how reliably I can handle things this weekend. If you can pitch in over the weekend reply to the Help Needed thread.

Ten Years
11:59 PM ET on 1/2/12 by Jay Soester
What were you doing ten years ago today? Turning 22? How bout 14? It was a Wednesday. AIM was still socially relevant, if not in its heyday. Facebook didn't come into existence until around 2 years later. MySpace didn't even exist. Were you watching Bill Guerin score a hat trick in a 6-3 Bruins defeat of the Hurricanes? Or watching Steve Spurrier's last game as Florida's head coach, a 56-23 Orange Bowl win over ACC champion Maryland with big games from Rex Grossman, Earnest Graham, Jabar Gaffney, Brock Berlin and Taylor Jacobs. Were you still in college?, watching your team beat Morris Brown 85-38 on the day your mom went back to prison? Or were you just being appointed interim President of Argentina by the Legislative Assembly?

Ten years ago Monday, I was a sophomore in high school plotting out the beginnings of a sim league. Tim had introduced me to sim leagues a few months before and I decided that it was the next step in my progression after 2+ years of running themed fantasy leagues. The American Simulation Football League soon had 12 teams with 12 coaches and plans to add the ability to create your own player and hire an assistant coach. After an admittedly disappointing first season, I went about adding to the member pool and decided to teach myself HTML over Spring Break to improve the free website of the time. Shortly thereafter it was decided to switch from running the league with a program whose name I no longer remember, to Madden 2002 (of which I still own two copies). After around a year and a half, and a few hundred emails, a sponsor was finally found to foot the $150 needed to purchase the domain (and hosting) that is still in use. If not for the original ASFL, this league might not exist, or at least the very least, would go by another name. I had to end the league's run on August 27th, 2004 with my first week of college. It took a considerable amount of work to run as it required roughly an hour per game, something impossible without two computers, plus all the time to manually calculate stats and create players. After my freshman year of college, I went about creating the ABL using OOTP which alleviated some of the time commitment from the original ASFL.

Moving
1:23 AM ET on 1/14/11 by Jay Soester
No, nothing with the website this time. I'm moving for the sixth time in six and a half years this weekend and will be doing so over a 200-plus mile distance. As a result, there may be delays in this weekends updates that could stretch into early next week. I apologize for the delay.

Three Year Anniversary
3:03 PM ET on 11/14/10 by Jay Soester
On November 14th, 2007 a concept I had been bouncing around in my head for a few months came to fruition as I created the first pages of the website and consulted with members from my previous endeavor (the ABL) to see who was interested. By the new year the league had grown larger than I had thought possible when I started. Thanks to everyone for your participation.

Help Needed
12:03 PM ET on 11/4/10 by Jay Soester
First, I apologize for the slowness on my end the past few weeks. I've been in the crux of my academic schedule for two weeks and believe it should lighten up in a week. At worst, the semester should essentially be over a month from now.

Given that, there are a few assignments I need help with to ease the load of work I come back to:

The Point Logs assignment has 11 months left, which I hope to have done by Thanksgiving. If you've helped out in the past, previous help restrictions have been extended.
In order to set the Keeper Leagues Fantasy Baseball drafts up as soon as possible, I need rosters from last season sent to me. The Second & Third Divisions are available and worth three bonus points each.
& The Recruiting Team will be revived in early December.

Standings Delays
12:27 AM ET on 9/12/10 by Jay Soester
The next few weeks are liable to see a delay in standings pages being updated compared to the normal update speed due to my personal schedule. Please bare with the delays as I squeeze things in around due dates, deadlines, quizes and tests.

Bonus Point Assignments
11:09 AM ET on 8/28/10 by Jay Soester
I began what I hope to be my last semester of college last Monday and because I need to make sure I'm focusing on school (arguably for the first time), there will be a larger number of assignments in the coming months than usual.

Given that, I need as much help as I can get for a few months. I can offer Bonus Points to volunteers, which add into your championship point total at the end of the season and can lead to a second team in draft sports among a few other things. The amount of bonus points each assignment is worth will be noted on the assignment post.

Currently, there are three assignments available with at least two basketball assignments forthcoming and the potential for a third.

The most important current assignment is the Point Logs Assignment, where I need help moving the points logs on the message board to excel files to create a database for the website. This is the first step toward moving the message board to the website and improving the general abilities of the website. There are 150 bonus points available for the assignment to be split between all who contribute in any fashion. If you have any questions please reply to the thread.

Email Change/Account Deletion Follow Up
6:19 PM ET on 7/28/10 by Jay Soester
I've sent an email to all registered members with my new email address, how the account deletion will effect games currently running, league designation info and information on games opening. Consider it a Newsletter #14.5. Please remember to make sure commish@theasfl.com will get through your email's junk filter going forward. As a side note, please notify me of any mention of theasfl@yahoo.com on the website so I can correct it. This includes any system emails with that return address.
